Earlier this week, an Aerovias DAP flight from Punta Arenas suffered a tail strike on landing into Puerto Williams Airport in Chile.
Furthermore, information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

Aerovias DAP Flight V5420 – Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams…
Aerovias DAP flight V5420, which suffered the tail strike, is a routine scheduled flight between Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams.
Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was CC-DHT.
As per data from Planespotters.net, CC-DHT is a 13.5 year old Bombardier Dash 8 that was delivered to Horizon Air in May 2011.
Horizon Air operated the aircraft for Alaska Airlines where it remained there until being sent to TronosJet in January 2024.
Only in July 2024 did Aerovias DAP take delivery of the aircraft.
So they haven’t had it for long.
Furthermore, the Chilean carrier also has the following other aircraft in their fleet:
- 4 BAe 146-200s.
- 6 Avro RJ100s.
- 2 Avro RJ85s.
- 1 Dash 6 Twin Otter.
Aerovias DAP flight V5420, which suffered the tail strike, departed Punta Arenas on September 9 and proceeded to Puerto Williams.
It is understood the aircraft landed at 1107 GMT-3, which is when the tail strike took place.
Moreover, it is also understood that the aircraft was able to taxi to the ramp without further incident, as per The Aviation Herald.
Aircraft Remains Grounded Following the Incident…
Following the tail strike including Aerovias DAP flight V5420 between Punta Arenas & Puerto Williams, CC-DHT remains grounded.
At this stage, it is unclear how long it is going to take to fix the aircraft.
It is understood the aircraft has some major scrapes underneath the tail, which will need assessing.
Once the fixes are made, then the aircraft can return to commercial service.
