On August 28, 2024, Air China and China Southern Airlines simultaneously welcomed their first COMAC C919 aircraft. The historic handover took place at COMAC’s Pudong base, marking a significant milestone for the new Chinese-made aircraft.
The delivery ceremony, themed “Building a Glorious Future Together,” was a grand affair. As the hangar doors opened, the two C919s, adorned in their respective airline liveries, were unveiled to the audience. COMAC officially handed over the aircraft to Air China and China Southern, while the CAAC issued the necessary certificates.
C919 Configurations and Service Entry
Air China’s C919 is an extended-range version with 158 seats, including 8 business class and 150 economy class.
China Southern’s aircraft is a standard-range version with 164 seat capacity. It features 8 business class, 18 premium economy class, and 138 economy class seats. Both aircraft offer customized amenities like personal charging interfaces for a comfortable passenger experience.
To ensure a smooth transition, Air China and China Southern have worked closely with COMAC in the lead-up to delivery. They have collaborated on various aspects, including aircraft selection, production oversight, personnel training, and operational preparation.
