Air Europa Boeing 787 to Madrid Suffers Bird Strike in Asuncion, Paraguay

An Air Europa Boeing 787, originally bound for Madrid, Spain remains grounded in Asuncion, Paraguay following a bird strike that took place on July 12.

Air Europa Flight UX24 – Asuncion, Paraguay to Madrid, Spain…

Air Europa flight UX24, which suffered the bird strike, is a routine scheduled flight between Asuncion, Paraguay and Madrid, Spain.

It is understood EC-NCY is the aircraft involved in this incident.

Furthermore, as per Planespotters.net, EC-NCY is a 4.9 year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline in September 2019.

Of the 787-9 variant, Air Europa has 14 of them in their fleet, with an average fleet age of 4.8 years.

As well as this aircraft, the Spanish carrier has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 27 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.
  • 11 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

Air Europa flight UX24, which suffered the bird strike, departed Asuncion, Paraguay and initially climbed out to Madrid, Spain.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood the aircraft suffered a bird strike, with an impact being felt in the cockpit.

Data from RadarBox highlights that the aircraft entered a high number of holds to burn fuel before making an approach.

Air Europa flight UX24, originally bound for Madrid, Spain, landed safely back into Asuncion, Paraguay at 1258 local time.

Aircraft Still Grounded: Unclear When Fixes Will Take Place…

Data from RadarBox also highlights that EC-NCY remains grounded at the Paraguayan airport following the incident.

Furthermore, the CAA in Paraguay noted that one of the aircraft’s Trent 1000 engines had been hit by the birds.

At this stage, it is unclear what the extent of the damage is following the strike.

However, if the damage is considerable, then this aircraft could be grounded for some time whilst parts are delivered and whilst repairs are made.
