An Air India flight from New Delhi to New York has declared an emergency whilst approaching the destination.
Air India flight AI101, a Boeing 777-300ER from New Delhi, declared an emergency, squawking transponder code 7700 on descent into New York JFK International Airport.

Air India flight AI101 squawked transponder code 7700 as it was passing through 7,000 feet in the latter stages of its arrival into New York. At the same time, multiple flights involving Indian carriers declared similar emergencies across India.

Having declared a general emergency on descent, Air India flight AI101 has now landed at the destination New York JFK International Airport.

Flight data shows that Air India flight AI101 had made an on-time departure out of Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) at 0236 local time on 22 October. The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL330 (33,000 feet) for the service to New York.
Descent procedure into New York was conducted normally until the emergency declaration was made by flight crew at 11:16 UTC. At this time, the aircraft was passing through 8,000 feet on approach to JFK International Airport.
At the same time, multiple emergencies were being declared by Indian carriers on scheduled services in India. Today’s emergency declaration following a string of bomb threats which have caused havoc across several days last week.
The aircraft conducting today’s affected AI101 service was a Boeing 777-300ER, registered VT-ALU. This is a 14.3 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the carrier Air India.
