Latvian carrier airBaltic has continued the strong performance it has sustained through 2024. The airline’s performance in September 2024 marks a significant milestone in its history.
The airline set new records for passenger numbers, flight operations, and load factor. In fact, it marks the highest September traffic in the airline’s history.
Record-Breaking September Performance
September 2024 saw airBaltic achieve its highest September traffic figures ever:
- 505,200 passengers carried, a 13% increase from the previous year
- 4,270 flights operated, up 4% from September 2023
- A record-breaking monthly load factor of 84.8%, representing a 5.9 percentage point increase year-over-year
These figures point to airBaltic’s growing popularity and operational efficiency, cementing its position as the most favored airline in the Baltic region.
2024 Year-to-Date
The carrier maintained the strong momentum which it has displayed throughout the year so far. It boasts some impressive year-to-date statistics, notably including:
- Nearly 4 million passengers carried (3,838,600 to be exact)
- 35,400 flights performed
These numbers reflect airBaltic’s consistent growth and its ability to meet increasing demand for air travel in the region.
Expansion Plans: New Routes and Increased Frequencies
airBaltic has announced ambitious expansion plans, including 16 new routes from the Baltic States:
- 4 from Riga
- 5 from Tallinn
- 7 from Vilnius
New destinations include popular locations such as Mykonos, Cluj-Napoca, Stavanger, Ibiza, and Rzeszów. This expansion caters to a diverse range of travel needs, from leisure to business and onward connectivity.
Additionally, airBaltic plans to increase frequencies on existing routes:
- 8 routes from Riga
- 4 routes from Tallinn
- 4 routes from Vilnius
A Hybrid Approach to Air Travel
airBaltic’s success can be attributed to its unique hybrid model, which combines the best aspects of traditional network carriers and low-cost airlines.
This approach allows the airline to offer competitive prices while maintaining high-quality service and an extensive route network.
Currently, airBaltic operates more than 130 routes from its bases in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria. This extensive network connects the Baltics with over 80 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region.

One of airBaltic’s key strengths is its modern and efficient fleet. The airline operates 48 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, making it one of Europe’s youngest fleets.
