AJet B737-800 Suffers Runway Excursion on Landing at Hakkari

An AJet Boeing 737-800 arriving from Ankara overran the runway on landing in Hakkari, Turkey on 20 September 2024.

AJet flight VF4316 was conducting an arrival to runway 29 Hakkari–Yüksekova Airport (YKO) during poor weather conditions. The initial approach was aborted by flight crew on the aircraft was positioned in a holding pattern.

A second approach to runway 29 was then attempted, with the aircraft landing off this subsequent attempt.

The aircraft was unable to stop on the available runway and overran the overshoot and of runway 29. The aircraft then came to rest with the nose gear assembly on soft ground. The main gear of the aircraft remained on the paved surface of the runway safety area.

As a result, the aircraft was disabled and was not able to taxi to the apron hardstanding area. The aircraft, which was carrying 185 passengers and 7 crew, was then disembarked. There were no reported injuries as a result of the landing incident.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that flight VF4316 had made an on-time departure from Ankara Esenboga Airport (ESB). Departure time was logged as 1119 local time on 20 September.

The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL370 (37,000 feet) for the easterly service to Hakkari. The arrival into the destination airport coincided with aerodrome weather reports of thunderstorms and heavy rain in the vicinity.

The aircraft conducting the VF4316 service from Ankara was a Boeing 737-800, registered TC-JKU. This is a 9.6-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier AJet (formerly Andaloujet). It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in March 2015.
