Breeze Airways, the premium leisure low-cost carrier known for its affordable nonstop services across the United States, has reached a significant milestone in its growth trajectory.

The airline has been awarded its first Essential Air Service contract, marking a new chapter in its mission to connect underserved communities.

Reviving a Dormant Route

The newly awarded contract will breathe life back into the Ogdensburg, NY to Washington Dulles route, which has been dormant since 2022.

Starting September 27, daily flights will connect these two cities. This development not only restores a vital air link but also adds Ogdensburg and Washington Dulles as the 65th and 66th cities in Breeze’s rapidly expanding network.

Breaking New Ground in the Capital

Breeze Airways is also set to make history by introducing three previously unserved routes from the nation’s capital. Travelers from Washington DC will soon enjoy direct connections to Salt Lake City-Provo, UT; South Bend, IN; and Vero Beach, FL.

These additions are groundbreaking, as these airports have never before had regular service to the greater Washington DC metro area.

Industry and Political Support

The aviation industry has warmly welcomed Breeze’s expansion. Paul Bobson, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority vice president for airline business development, expressed excitement about Breeze becoming the 45th airline at Washington Dulles International.

He highlighted the significance of the new routes in reinforcing Dulles’ position as the airport with the most nonstop destinations in the region.

Political figures have also recognized the importance of this development. Senator Chuck Schumer of New York praised the expansion, emphasizing its positive impact on the North Country’s economy.

He noted his efforts to secure increased funding for the Essential Air Service Program in this year’s FAA bill, recognizing the critical role of air connectivity for smaller communities.

Breeze’s Vision and Growth

David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ Founder and CEO, reiterated the airline’s commitment to connecting unserved city pairs. He emphasized the airline’s unique value proposition, combining premium leisure low-cost service with a great guest experience, including elevated seating options and fast WiFi.

Since its launch in May 2021 with just 16 cities, Breeze has experienced remarkable growth. The airline’s “Nice Low-Cost Carrier” business model, which balances efficiency and affordability with comfort and accessibility, has resonated strongly with travelers.

This approach has earned Breeze a spot in the top five of Travel + Leisure’s “Best Domestic Airlines” for three consecutive years.

A220 Flight Operations

Breeze sets itself apart by offering both bundled and à la carte options, allowing travelers to tailor their experience to their specific needs.

The airline’s fare bundles provide full flexibility along with add-ons such as bags, seats, and inflight WiFi. This level of customization, coupled with the use of brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, defines Breeze’s “Seriously Nice” approach in an industry often criticized for its lack of customer focus.

As Breeze Airways continues to expand its network and services, it’s clear that the airline is not just connecting cities, but reimagining what air travel can be for leisure travelers across the United States.

With its focus on underserved routes, affordable fares, and premium experience, Breeze looks set to continue its upward trajectory in the competitive airline industry.
