British Airways is set to expand its network with the introduction of a new route from London Heathrow to Tbilisi, Georgia. Starting 30 March 2025, the airline will operate four weekly flights, marking a significant step in connecting the UK with this vibrant Caucasian nation.
The new service will not only benefit London-based travelers but also those from across the UK. British Airways operates flights from eight UK airports to London Heathrow, including Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester, and Newcastle.
This extensive network allows passengers from various regions to reach Tbilisi seamlessly on a single ticket via Heathrow, enhancing accessibility and convenience.
Discovering Georgia
Georgia, strategically located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, offers a unique blend of experiences for travelers. The country is renowned for its rich history, vibrant culture, traditional cuisine, and breathtaking scenery.
Perhaps most notably, Georgia proudly claims to be the birthplace of wine. It boasts an impressive 8,000-year history of winemaking that remains an integral part of its cultural identity.
Tbilisi, the capital city, is a jewel nestled along the banks of the Mtkvari River and surrounded by picturesque hills. Beyond it, the majestic Caucasus Mountains loom to the north.
Visitors are drawn to its charming old town, characterized by cobblestone streets and a fascinating mix of architectural styles. The city’s diverse culinary scene, influenced by centuries of cultural exchanges, is another major attraction.
Beyond Tbilisi, adventurous travelers can explore the canyons and caves near Kutaisi. Alternatively, plan to visit the multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites scattered throughout the country.
A320neo Onboard Experience
British Airways will operate the new route with its narrowbody Airbus A320neo aircraft. Passengers on the London-Tbilisi route will have the choice of two cabin classes. These are Club Europe (business class) and Euro Traveller (economy).
Euro Traveller customers can enjoy a complimentary drink and snack. Meanwhile Club Europe offers a more premium experience with lounge access, full meal service, priority boarding, and additional baggage allowance.
Strategic Importance
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the restored route. “We’re delighted to welcome Tbilisi back into our route network, after our last scheduled service in 2013.”
“We expect this to be a popular route with the leisure market, which has seen a strong comeback since 2019. As well as with those looking to enjoy direct flights to visit friends and family.”
Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia echoed this sentiment. The Deputy Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the new route. “We are proud that flagship carrier British Airways has decided to enter the Georgian market. This is an important recognition for our country.”
“This will significantly boost Georgia’s awareness within the UK market and improve connectivity with the USA, which is a strategic partner country of Georgia.”
Optimized Flight Schedules
The flight timings have been carefully planned to facilitate smooth connections at Heathrow, particularly for passengers traveling to New York or European destinations not directly served from Georgia, such as Madrid and Barcelona.
This strategic scheduling aims to position Tbilisi as a well-connected hub for both business and leisure travelers.
As British Airways prepares to launch this exciting new route, it opens up a world of possibilities for travelers keen to explore the hidden gem that is Georgia, while also strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
