Brussels Airlines is set to expand its long-haul fleet significantly, adding three Airbus A330 aircraft and bringing its widebody fleet to 13 in the coming years.
The national carrier will also invest substantially in new cabin interiors. Additionally, the airline has signed a contract with a wet-lease partner to operate four Airbus A220 aircraft. These aircraft will operate seasonally, starting from summer 2025. Brussels Airlines also plans to grow its short- and medium-haul fleet.

Many African countries are experiencing population and economic growth, increasing air travel demand. The three new Airbus A330 aircraft will primarily reinforce the airline’s Sub-Saharan Africa network.
Focus on Fleet Expansion
At the heart of this transformation is a substantial expansion of Brussels Airlines’ long-haul fleet. The airline will add three Airbus A330 aircraft to its existing widebody fleet. This will bring the total to an impressive 13 in the coming years.

Cabin Interior Upgrades

The airline plans to introduce a brand-new cabin interior across its long-haul fleet. This represents an investment of over 100 million euros. This significant upgrade will cover all three travel classes: business, premium economy, and economy.

Wet Lease Agreements
In addition to expanding its own fleet, Brussels Airlines has entered into a strategic wet-lease agreement with Air Baltic. Starting from the summer season of 2025, Air Baltic will seasonally operate four Airbus A220 aircraft on behalf of Brussels Airlines.
These modern, efficient aircraft, with 148 seats each, are well-suited for regional routes and those with fluctuating demand.
This partnership allows Brussels Airlines to flexibly adjust its capacity to meet seasonal demand without the long-term commitment of owning additional aircraft. It’s a smart move that balances growth with operational efficiency.
Creating Jobs and Opportunities
The ambitious expansion plans come with a significant boost to employment. Brussels Airlines anticipates hiring over 250 new employees across various roles, including pilots, cabin crew, maintenance and engineering staff, and ground personnel.
Moreover, the fleet expansion will create career advancement opportunities for existing employees, such as promotions to captain, senior purser, or instructor positions.
Dieter Vranckx, Chairman of the Board of Directors at SN Airholding, expressed confidence in the expansion. “The demand for flights to and from Sub-Saharan Africa is developing at a fast pace, and it is crucial for Lufthansa Group to grow its footprint in the region.”
