Fly Jinnah A320 Emergency Evacuation in Lahore Due to Cargo Smoke Indication

A Fly Jinnah Airbus A320-200 arriving from Karachi was evacuated via emergency slides in Lahore, Pakistan after the flight crew received a cargo smoke indication on 23 September 2024.

Fly Jinnah flight 9P846, an Airbus A320-200, was on descent into Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE).

During the descent procedure, the flight crew were alerted to a cargo smoke indication. Upon receiving the alert, the operating crew continued the approach and landed without incident in Lahore.

As a precaution, the aircraft was then evacuated via emergency slides. A subsequent inspection of the aircraft by emergency services in attendance found no trace of smoke or fire.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) subsequently confirmed the incident, which took place around 0715 local time on 23 September.

The aircraft occupants within evacuated via emergency slides as a standard precaution.

Video footage of the incident posted to social media shows passengers being disembarked via the forward, over-wing and aft emergency exit slides. No reports of injuries have arisen following the landing incident.

The aircraft conducting the 9P846 service from Karachi Jinnah International Airport (KHI) was an Airbus A320-200, registered AP-BOO. This is a 5.3-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Fly Jinnah.

It has been in operational service with the airline since September 2022. Prior to its present service, it passed through the hands of Air Arabia and Batik Air. It was originally operated by Batik Air from its initial delivery from the factory in July 2019.

Fly Jinnah is a Pakistani low-cost airline, launched in 2021 as a joint venture between the Lakson Group of Pakistan and Air Arabia Group of the United Arab Emirates. The airline is based in Karachi and primarily serves domestic destinations within Pakistan.
