German Airways ERJ-190 Returns to Nuremberg After Engine Shutdown

A German Airways ERJ-190 departing for Amsterdam made a precautionary return to Nuremberg after shutting down one engine after takeoff on 13 October.

A German Airways Embraer ERJ-190 departing for Amsterdam made a precautionary return to Nuremberg after shutting down one engine on 13 October 2024.

German Airways flight KL1838, operated by an ERJ-190, had conducted a departure from runway 28 Nuremberg Airport (NUE).

During the initial climb after takeoff, the flight crew reported losing oil pressure on the left hand engine. As a result, the climb was terminated and the engine was shut down in flight.

A direct return to Nuremberg was then negotiated. The aircraft landed without further incident approximately fifteen minutes after its initial departure.

Flight data shows that flight KL1838 had made an on-time departure from Nuremberg Airport at 0559 local time on 13 October.

Following the takeoff from runway 28, flight crew terminated the climb at 5000 feet. Following the engine shutdown, a direct return was then conducted to runway 28.

The aircraft conducting the KL1838 service to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport was an Embraer ERJ-190, registered D-ACJJ. This is a 17.1 year old regional aircraft belonging to the carrier German Airways. It has been an operational service with the airline since December 2020.

Prior to its service with the present carrier it has been operated by a number of air operators since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2007.

The aircraft is currently painted in “Herpa Miniaturmodelle 75 Years” special livery. German Airways operated the KL1838 service on behalf of KLM.
