Icelandair reported a 10% increase in passenger numbers in August 2024 compared to the previous year. A total of 601,000 passengers flew with the airline, with 33% traveling to Iceland, 13% from Iceland, 50% via Iceland, and 4% within Iceland.

The airline’s load factor improved to 86.9%, up from 83.9% in 2023, and on-time performance reached 82.8%. Year-to-date, Icelandair has carried 3.2 million passengers, an 8% increase over the same period last year.

Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair’s President and CEO, expressed satisfaction with the strong passenger growth. He noted that while fewer passengers were traveling to Iceland compared to the previous year, increased demand for transit flights helped to offset this decline.

Bogason highlighted the popularity of Icelandair’s Stopover program, with 18,000 passengers taking advantage of it in August. These travelers stayed in Iceland for an average of one to seven days, boosting the country’s tourism industry.

Icelandair’s continued focus on on-time performance and customer service was also emphasized. The airline announced plans to add Lisbon to its network in October, further expanding its reach and offering new travel options.

Icelandair is an Icelandic airline headquartered in Keflavík, Iceland. It is the country’s largest airline, operating scheduled flights to destinations in Europe, North America, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Icelandair is known for its Stopover program, which allows passengers to extend their journey with a free stopover in Iceland for up to seven days.
