A JetBlue Airbus A220-300 departing New York LaGuardia for West Palm Beach, FL diverted to New York JFK after detecting a burning odour on board on 21 September 2024.
JetBlue flight B6561 had departed from New York LaGuardia and was on climb below 10,000 feet when flight crew reported a burning odour on board. The climb procedure was discontinued and the precautionary diversion was made to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The flight subsequently landed without incident at New York’s JFK approximately 30 minutes after its initial departure from LaGuardia.
An FAA report subsequently confirmed that the flight landed safely around 01:20pm local time on Saturday 21 September. It confirmed that flight crew had reported detecting a burning smell on board. the inflight incident will be the subject of an FAA investigation.

Flight data shows that flight B6561 had departed from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) at 1250 local time.
The flight was in the early stages of its climb when the incident was reported. Flight crew terminated the climb at 5000 feet before negotiating a diversion to New York JFK.
The aircraft conducting the B6561 service to Palm Beach International Airport was an Airbus A220-300, registered N3125J. This is a 1.6 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier JetBlue. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 2023. The aircraft operates under the airline name of ‘Blueteus Maximus’.
