A JetBlue Airbus A321-200 operating a service from New York JFK to San Diego, CA diverted to Salina KS due to a technical problem on 21 September 2024.
JetBlue flight B61189, an Airbus A321-200 was operating from New York JFK International Airport. It was en route in cruising flight when flight crew received a cargo smoke indication.

The aircraft was situated to the north-east of Salina, when flight crew made the decision to conduct a precautionary diversion to Salina Municipal Airport (SLN).
The flight was able to land without incident at Salina just under 30 minutes after the diversion was made.
According to the online source Aviation Herald, passengers reported that the flight crew had advised of a cargo smoke indication. Some passengers indicated that they had heard a bang, and mist issued from the cabin air conditioning vents.
Following its landing at the diversion airport, the airline mustered a replacement aircraft. This completed the scheduled service to San Diego.

Flight data shows that flight B61189 had made an on-time departure from New York JFK. Departure was recorded at 1555 local time on 21 September.
The flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL360 (36,000 feet) for the westerly service to San Diego.
The aircraft was in cruising flight approximately 40 nautical miles to the north east of Salina when the abnormal indication was received.
The aircraft conducting the B61189 rotation to San Diego was an Airbus A321-200, registered N944JT. This is a 9.9 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier JetBlue. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in November 2014.
