Passengers on JetBlue flight B6361 received a fanfare welcome this week. When the flight landed on 1 October, it marked the airline’s 15th anniversary of flight operations in Barbados.
JetBlue flight B6361 touched down at Grantley Adams International Airport on Monday to a jubilant reception. It marking a significant milestone in the airline’s history with Barbados. The carrier plays a major role in supporting air connections with the United States.
The arrival of this flight, piloted by Captain Troy Weisgram, celebrated JetBlue’s 15th anniversary of service between New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport and the tropical paradise of Barbados.
As the aircraft’s doors opened, the 147 passengers and seven crew members were greeted by an enthusiastic welcoming party that embodied the vibrant spirit of Barbadian culture.
Celebrating 15 Years of Service
Leading the reception was Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Tourism and International Transport, accompanied by a cadre of officials from various tourism organizations. This included the Ministry of Tourism, Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., and the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association.
The airport terminal buzzed as a colorful tuk band filled the air with lively rhythms, while stilt walkers towered above the crowd, their elaborate costumes swaying with each step.
Dancers in dazzling Kadooment costumes, reminiscent of Barbados’ grand carnival celebration, added to the festive atmosphere, offering visitors an immediate taste of the island’s rich cultural heritage.
Minister Gooding-Edghill, addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of this anniversary. “Today marks a significant milestone in our partnership with JetBlue,” he declared.
“For the past decade and a half, this airline has been more than just a mode of transport; it has been a bridge, bringing families together, welcoming visitors to our shores. It has strengthened the bond between Barbados and the United States.”
JetBlue: Supporting 27% of Arrivals to Barbados
The Minister went on to praise JetBlue’s unwavering commitment to Barbados, particularly during the unprecedented challenges that recently rocked the global airline industry.
He revealed impressive statistics, noting that from January to July 2024, JetBlue’s New York service accounted for a substantial 27 percent of total U.S. arrivals to the island.
This figure underscores the airline’s significant contribution to Barbados’ tourism sector. It also serves to highlight the strong demand for travel between these destinations.
Looking to the future, Gooding-Edghill expressed the government’s dedication to fostering even stronger ties with JetBlue. “We embark on the next chapter of our aviation alliance. We are committed to working closely with JetBlue Airways to attract even more visitors to our beautiful island,” he stated. He ended his speech with an optimistic toast to many more years of successful collaboration and growth.
Kelly Bourne, JetBlue’s General Manager for Barbados and Grenada, took the podium to share the airline’s perspective on this milestone. She began by highlighting JetBlue’s position as the sixth-largest airline in the United States. It is known for its superior amenities and what she described as “the best crew members in the industry.”

Reflecting on JetBlue’s journey in Barbados, Bourne painted a picture of remarkable growth. “Fifteen years ago our first flight from JFK to Barbados took off. We couldn’t have imagined the success we’d achieve,” she remarked.
“Today, our competitive fares and award-winning service have positioned JetBlue as one of the leading airlines serving this beautiful island.” Bourne then outlined the expansion of JetBlue’s services to Barbados over the years. “We’ve grown our network significantly,” she explained.
“Not only do we maintain our original route from JFK, but we’ve also expanded to offer service from Boston. Currently, we provide up to two daily flights from JFK. We’re thrilled to announce that this winter, we’ll be operating up to three weekly flights from Boston Logan International Airport to Barbados.”
