JetBlue ERJ-190: Park Brake Indicator On During Approach to Washington DCA

JetBlue flight B61455, an Embraer ERJ-190 inbound from Boston, reported a parking brake indicator warning during approach to Washington (DCA) on 10 August.

A Jetblue Embraer ERJ-190 operating scheduled service from Boston, MA to Washington National (DCA), DC reported a technical issue whilst on approach to the destination airport on 10 August 2024.

JetBlue flight B61455, operated by an Embraer ERJ-190, was conducting its approach to Washington National Airport (DCA) when flight crew reported receiving a parking brake indication. With the indicator showing the parking brake in the engaged position, flight crew delayed the approach and entered a holding pattern to ascertain the problem.

Descent was continued through the holding procedure, and the aircraft then continued with an approach to RWY01. The flight subsequently landed without incident and was able to vacate the runway normally.

According to the Aviation Herald, flight crew had further advised the tower that the indicator was showing the parking brake still engaged as they continued with the approach. However, shortly thereafter they advised that the indicator had extinguished.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that JetBlue flight B61455 made an on-time departure out of Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). Actual time of departure was logged at 0914 local time on 10 August.

The flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL300 (30,000 feet) for the service to Washington (DCA).

Let down and approach procedure were conducted normally. Flight crew then reported the issue during the latter portion of the approach phase below 10,000 feet.

The holding procedure was flown as a descending pattern to troubleshoot the issue. From there, the flight crew then continued with the visual approach.

The aircraft conducting the B61455 domestic service from Boston was an Embraer ERJ-190, registered N339JB. This is a 12.9 year old regional jet belonging to the carrier JetBlue. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in November 2011.
