A KLM Boeing 737-900 departing for Barcelona, Spain made a precautionary return to Amsterdam after flight crew detected smoke in the cockpit on 28 October 2024.
KLM flight KL1511, operated by a Boeing 737-900, had conducted a departure from runway 24 Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS). The flight was a scheduled service to Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN).

During the initial climb after takeoff flight crew reported the presence of smoke in the cabin. The claim procedure was terminated and a direct return to the origin airport was carried out.
On its return, the aircraft was given clearance to land on runway 27 Amsterdam Schiphol. According to the online source Aviation Herald, flight crew issued a PAN PAN urgency call during the approach to runway 27. They advised ATC that smoke was now present in the cockpit.
The flight was able to land without further issue, approximately 20 minutes after its initial departure.

After takeoff, flight crew terminated the climb at flight level FL130, before conducting a descent and direct return to the origin airport.
The aircraft conducting the KL1511 the service to Barcelona was a Boeing 737-900, registered PH-BXO. This is a 23.4-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in June 2001. KLM currently operate the aircraft in SkyTeam special livery.
