A KLM flight arriving from Amsterdam was forced to conduct a missed approach after experiencing a bird strike on finals at Inverness on 1 August 2024.
KLM flight KL901 from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) was being operated by an Embraer ERJ-175.

Having conducted an arrival to the destination of Inverness Airport (INV), Scotland, the flight was lined up for an arrival on RWY23. Whilst on final approach, the aircraft suffered a bird strike which prompted the crew to initiate a missed approach.
Furthermore, the go around procedure was initiated from short finals and the aircraft was then climbed and repositioned for a second approach to RWY23.
Overall, the flight then landed without further incident, just under 30 minutes from the initial missed approach. According to the Aviation Herald, the airline confirmed the occurrence of a bird strike which appears to have impacted the aircraft’s right-hand pitot tube.

Also, flight data shows that flight KL901 had made an on-time departure out of Amsterdam (AMS) at 1136 local time. The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL360 (36,000 feet) for the north-westerly service to Scotland.
Moreover, the letdown and initial approach procedures were conducted normally, until the go around procedure. This was initiated mid finals at approximately 400 feet.
The aircraft conducting the KL901 service from Amsterdam ERJ-175, registered PH-EXJ. This is a 7.9-year-old regional aircraft belonging to the carrier KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Furthermore, it is operated by the airline subsidiary carrier KLM Cityhopper. The aircraft has been in service with the subsidiary airline since its initial delivery in October 2016. KLM Cityhopper is the regional airline subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, it operates a network of European feeder services. It also connects passengers to KLM’s main hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
