Norwegian Adds New Route from Stockholm to Skellefteå

Norwegian is set to launch a new direct route connecting Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Skellefteå Airport on 28 October 2024.

The network expansion responds to the growing demand for improved connectivity to northern Sweden.

This is a region currently experiencing rapid sustainable business development and economic growth.

Northern Sweden’s Emerging Sustainable Hub

In recent years, northern Sweden has become a magnet for industries focused on sustainability and green technology.

The region’s commitment to environmental stewardship and innovative business practices has attracted significant investment and attention from both domestic and international companies.

As this area continues to flourish economically and socially, the need for robust infrastructure and accessibility has become increasingly critical.

Skellefteå, in particular, stands at the forefront of this transformation. The city is poised for substantial expansion in the coming years, with new businesses establishing a presence and existing ones scaling up operations.

This growth trajectory underscores the importance of enhanced transportation links to support the region’s development and connect it more efficiently with the rest of Sweden and the world.

Norwegian’s Strategic Move

By introducing this new route, Norwegian demonstrates its commitment to serving evolving market needs and supporting regional development.

The airline’s decision to connect Stockholm directly with Skellefteå five days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays) will significantly improve travel options for both business and leisure travelers.

Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia, expressed enthusiasm for the new domestic route.

“We’re thrilled about Norwegian’s new routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport, especially this domestic one.”

“Strong air travel options within Sweden are crucial for connecting people across the country and facilitating international travel for both personal and business purposes.”

“Norwegian’s longstanding presence at Swedavia‘s airports makes this expansion particularly welcome. It adds an important route to their extensive network.”

Meeting Growing Demand

Norwegian’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, highlighted the strategic importance of the new route. “The development in Skellefteå, with many companies investing heavily in the region, increases the need for excellent connectivity to the rest of the world.”

“Currently, there is a limited supply of flights to and from Skellefteå. Therefore, it’s particularly pleasing that we can announce today that we will be operating a route between Stockholm and Skellefteå.”

This new connection is expected to play a vital role in supporting the region’s economic growth. It will facilitate business travel, and promote tourism to northern Sweden.

Commitment to Sustainability

As one of the largest airlines in the Nordic countries and a leading European low-cost carrier, Norwegian has always prioritized offering affordable travel options while increasing passenger choice.

Norwegian is actively positioning itself as a driving force in aviation’s green transition. The airline has set an ambitious goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45 percent by 2030.

To achieve this target, Norwegian is implementing a multi-faceted approach that includes:

  1. Renewing its aircraft fleet with more fuel-efficient models
  2. Promoting the use of renewable aviation fuels
  3. Implementing waste reduction and recycling programs
  4. Utilizing advanced weather and wind data to optimize flight paths and reduce fuel consumption

By combining expansion with a strong commitment to sustainability, Norwegian aims to become the most environmentally responsible choice for air travelers.
