PIA A320-200 Diverts to Karachi Due to Hydraulic Problem

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus A320-200 en route from Muscat, Oman to Peshawar, Pakistan diverted to Karachi with a technical issue on 29 September 2024.

Pakistan International Airlines flight PK260, an Airbus A320-200, was in cruising flight bound for Peshawar Bacha Khan International Airport (PEW) when the problem arose.

Flight crew reported a hydraulic failure and elected to divert to nearby Karachi Jinnah International Airport (KHI).

The flight subsequently landed without further incident at the diversion airport just under one hour after reporting the technical problem. The airline subsequently confirmed the aircraft diversion arose from a technical malfunction. The aircraft concerned returned to operational service on 1 October.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that the flight PK260 had made a delayed departure out of Muscat International Airport (MCT) at 0415 local time on 29 September. Scheduled departure time for the service was listed as 0230 local time.

The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL370 (37,000 feet) for the north-easterly service to Peshawar, Pakistan.

Flight crew conducted the diversion from the cruise approximately 200 nautical miles to the north west of Karachi.

The aircraft conducting the PK260 service from Muscat was an Airbus A320-200, registered AP-BLS. This is a 17.7 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Pakistan International Airlines. It has been operational service with the airline since June 2015.

Prior to its present service, the aircraft was operated by Czech Airlines from its initial delivery from the factory in March 2007.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is the national flag carrier of Pakistan. Founded in 1946, it’s headquartered in Karachi and operates flights to domestic and international destinations.
