A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner has sustained damage during a ground incident at Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH). The incident occurred following the aircraft’s arrival at the Doha airport on Friday, 25 October 2024.
The Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8, registered A7-BCV, was taxiing at Hamad International Airport following its arrival. The aircraft appears to have been operating the scheduled service QR663 from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Qatar Airways Ground Incident in Doha
Footage which has surfaced on social media reveals that the aircraft’s right-hand landing gear assembly became lodged in a drain on the tarmac area. The ground incident occurred as the aircraft was taxiing to the gate after landing.
According to unconfirmed reports, the ramp area collapsed leading to the aircraft’s right-hand man gear wheels falling into it. The reports suggest that as well as the damage to the aircraft’s undercarriage assembly, damage has also been sustained to the engine inlet and fan cowls.
The aircraft, which remained disabled on the hardstanding area, can be seen resting on its right-hand engine nacelle. The right-hand undercarriage assembly is shown to be stuck in an open drainage recess on the tarmac.
Qatar Airways has yet to release a statement on the ground incident to confirm the circumstances and the extent of the damage to the aircraft. It is understood that no injuries were sustained as a result of the taxiing event.
Whilst the airport was able to conduct normal operations, authorities have commenced an investigation of the incident to ascertain causes.
The aircraft conducting the service to Doha was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, registered A7-BCV. This is a 9.5 year old wide-body aircraft belonging to the carrier Qatar Airways. The GEnX-engine equipped aircraft been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in May 2015.
