A Ryanair aircraft landing at Milan Bergamo Airport suffered a tyre explosion, resulting in a significant disruption to airport operations. The aircraft’s tyre exploded during the landing process, forcing the airport to temporarily close its runways.

Milan Bergamo (BGY) is a major Italian airport hub and the third largest in the country in terms of passenger movements.

Milan Bergamo Landing Incident

The Ryanair Boeing 737-800 landing incident occurred around 8:00pm. The resultant tyre burst left the Ryanair flight disabled on the active runway.

A statement was issued after the event by airport management company SABCO, confirming the extent of the issue.

“SACBO advises that due to an aircraft grounded on the runway due to technical problems, operations are suspended. Departing flights are delayed and arriving flights may be diverted or cancelled until reopened.”

Milan Bergamo Airport notice to passengers

As a result of the runway blockage, numerous flights were either diverted to nearby airports, such as Verona and Milan Malpensa, or were completely cancelled. Passengers faced significant delays and inconveniences as they navigated the unexpected disruption to their travel plans.

Firefighters assisted with the disembarkation of passengers and crew from the disabled Ryanair flight. According to local reports, no injuries were sustained by occupants of the aircraft.

Airport authorities have worked to clear the runway and restore normal operations as quickly as possible. The exact cause of the tyre explosion is currently under investigation, and further updates are expected to be released in the coming days.
