SAS has announced plans to significantly expand its Copenhagen hub starting with the summer 2025 schedule, solidifying its position as a key international gateway to and from Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Today, the airline revealed 15 new routes from Copenhagen, including a long-haul connection to Seattle.
The new summer schedule includes routes to Krakow, Madrid, Budapest, Lyon, Valencia, Malta, Bucharest, Milan Linate, Seville, Turku, Billund, Kristiansand, Harstad/Narvik, and Bodø. Additionally, SAS will increase frequencies on 15 existing routes, including key destinations like Stockholm, Oslo, Prague, Berlin, and Helsinki.
SAS and Copenhagen Hub
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) boasts a rich history dating back to 1946. Founded as a consortium of three national airlines from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, SAS has since become a symbol of Nordic cooperation.
Over the decades, the airline has played a pivotal role in connecting Scandinavia to the rest of the world, offering reliable and efficient air travel services.
SAS has established Copenhagen as its primary hub, making it a strategic gateway for international travel.
The airline’s extensive network connects Scandinavia to numerous destinations in Europe, North America, and Asia. By expanding its Copenhagen hub, SAS aims to further enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the region.
Emergence as Competitive Airline
With its recent entry into SkyTeam, SAS is focused on global reach and will continue to develop Copenhagen as its main hub.
The hub’s strategic location in continental Europe allows for efficient same-day travel across Northern, Central, and Western Europe. It will also serve as a key transit point for long-haul travel, connecting Europe with North America and Asia.
“SAS is emerging as a competitive and financially strong airline,” said SAS CEO Anko van der Werff. “By enhancing Copenhagen as our main hub and expanding our network, we are boosting connectivity and driving economic growth not only in Denmark but across Scandinavia. Copenhagen will become a central gateway, bringing the region even closer together.”
Strengthening Oslo and Stockholm Connectivity
SAS will continue to offer robust services from Oslo and Stockholm. Oslo Gardemoen will maintain up to 125 daily departures to more than 60 destinations, focusing on regional and European travel. Starting in the summer of 2025, SAS will also introduce a new seasonal route between Oslo and New York (JFK).
Stockholm Arlanda, with more than 70 direct routes and 120 daily departures, will remain an important gateway for European and intercontinental travel.
SAS’s recently announced partnership with Braathens Regional Airways AB (BRA) will optimize regional air services.
As SAS enhances connectivity and shares more developments later this year, the airline is committed to driving the transition to sustainable aviation. New routes will feature fuel-efficient, modern aircraft, reducing emissions while expanding the network.
