SAS Flight SK2823 Copenhagen-Faro Declares Emergency

An SAS flight enroute from Copenhagen to Faro has declared an emergency whilst transitting French airspace.

SAS flight SK2823, an Airbus A320-200 bound for Faro, declared the emergency with squawk code 7700 and is now diverting to nearby Nantes.

SAS flight SK2823, an A320-200 enroute from Copenhagen to Faro, has declared an emergency in French airspace and is diverting to Nantes.

Flight SK2823 declared the emergency whilst on descent from cruising altitude, before carrying out a diversion to nearby Nantes Atlantique Airport (NTE). The nature of the emergency resulting in the diversion is not yet known.

SAS flight SK2823 appears to have made an approach to Nantes (NTE) after expediting a diversion earlier this morning. The flight is now confirmed as having landed at the French airport.

Flight data shows that SAS flight SK2823 made an on-time departure from Copenhagen Airport (CPH) at 0553 local time this morning. The flight had then set course normally, climbing to FL370 (37,000 feet) for the southerly service to Faro, Portugal.

Flight crew declared an emergency with transponder code 7700 as the aircraft transited French airspace on flight plan track for Faro Airport (FAO). A descent and diversion was then expedited to Nantes.

The aircraft conducting this morning’s SK2823 service to Portugal was an Airbus A320neo, registered SE-ROM. This is a 5.9 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier SAS Scandinavian Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in 2018.
