Singapore Airlines B777-300 Diverts to Taipei with Cracked Windshield

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300 operating from Singapore to Tokyo diverted to Taipei due to cracked windshield on 27 October 2024.

Singapore Airlines flight SQ636, operated by a Boeing 777-300 was en route from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). The aircraft was performing a scheduled service to Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND).

Whilst the aircraft was en route in cruising flight, it sustained a cracked windshield assembly. As a result, flight crew elected to make a precautionary diversion to Taipei.

The aircraft subsequently landed without further incident at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), approximately one hour after the diversion was made.

According to the airline, passengers were disembarked at Taipei and accommodated overnight. The aircraft was able to make a departure the following day to complete the scheduled service to Tokyo Haneda.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that flight SQ636 made a departure out of Singapore Changi Airport at 2317 local time on 27 October.

The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL360 for the northerly service to Tokyo, Japan. The diversion was then made from cruising flight when the aircraft was approximately 200 nautical miles to the south of Taipei on flight plan track.

The aircraft conducting the SQ636 service to Tokyo was a Boeing 777-300ER, registered 9V-SWI. This is a 17.7-year-old wide-body aircraft belonging to the carrier Singapore Airlines.

It has been operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 2007. The aircraft is currently operating in Star Alliance special livery.
