A Jazz Air Canadair CRJ-900 operating a service from Newark, NJ to Toronto noted an elevator indication problem during the flight’s departure on 9 September 2024.
A Jazz Canadair CRJ-900 operating the flight QK879 for Air Canada Express had made its departure from RWY22R Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

During the initial climb after takeoff, flight crew reported receiving a split elevator indication. The crew subsequently ran through troubleshooting checklists and consulted with airline dispatch staff. Based upon the findings and current weather information, the decision was made to continue the flight to the destination.
Accordingly, flight crew proceeded with the scheduled flight plan to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The flight landed in Toronto without further incident, approximately 90 minutes after its initial departure from Newark.

Flight data shows that flight QK879 made an on-time departure out of Newark Liberty International Airport at 1350 local time. Following the technical issue, flight crew terminated the climb at flight level FL160 (16,000 feet) and conducted the remainder of the flight at that altitude.
According to the online source Aviation Herald, flight crew requested emergency services to remain on standby for their arrival in Toronto as a precaution.
The aircraft conducting the QK879 service was a Canadair CRJ-900, registered C-GJAN. This is an 18 year old regional commuter aircraft belonging to the carrier Air Canada Express. The aircraft is operated by Jazz Air, and has been in operational service with the carrier since October 2019.
Jazz Air is a Canadian regional airline that operates primarily under contract to Air Canada. It uses the brand name Air Canada Express. This partnership is a crucial component of Air Canada’s network, connecting smaller cities to its major hubs.
Prior to its service with the present airline, it was operated by SkyWest Airlines since its initial delivery from the factory in February 2007.
