The runway excursion event took place at Serui Stevanus Rumbewas Airport in Serui, Indonesia, after the flight crew aborted a takeoff.
During the procedure, the aircraft lost directional control and veered off the left-hand side of the runway. This resulted in a main undercarriage collapse when the aircraft impacted rough terrain.
According to local news sources, the flight has recently landed from Biak, and was preparing to depart for the onwards service to Jayapura.
The reason for the rejected takeoff is not yet known. Although no injuries were reported, several passengers were transported to Serui Regional Hospital for medical evaluation.

It is understood that the aircraft has subsequently been written off as a result of the runway incident.
The aircraft conducting the regional service from Serui was an ATR 42-500, registered PK-YSP. This is a 26.7 year old twin turboprop commuter aircraft belonging to the carrier Trigana Air. It has been in operational service with the airline since November 2018.
