Two passengers on board a scheduled United airlines flight were reportedly injured when flight crew manoeuvred in response to a TCAS resolution advisory on 19 September 2024.

According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) report, the flight was in the cruise en route to San Francisco International Airport. It was transiting Wyoming airspace at the time.
The brief FAA report has been provided by the online source Aviation Herald. It notes that the United flight crew had responded to a Terrain Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) advisory.
A resultant manoeuvring of the aircraft took place to comply with the collision avoidance advisory. This resulted in one passenger receiving serious injuries and causing another minor injuries.
Specific details of the injuries sustained by the 2 passengers has not been disclosed. However, the FAA has categorised the event as an accident; giving an indication of severity of injuries sustained.
The identifying information suggests that the aircraft was on flight plan track and in cruising flight at the time of the occurrence. Notwithstanding this, there is no significant deviation in the altitude profile of the aircraft according to available ADS-B data.
Typically, a TCAS resolution advisory will be generated in a situation where there is a loss of minimum separation between 2 conflicting aircraft.
The FAA report currently only nominates the United Airlines Boeing 757-200 operating scheduled flight UA2428 on 19 September. There is no clarification as to the involvement of another aircraft in the TCAS advisory message.
