A United Airlines Boeing 757-200 operating from Lihue, Hawaii to Denver, CO made a diversion to Honolulu due to a technical problem on 20 August 2024.
United Airlines flight UA1685, a Boeing 757-200 outbound from Lihue Airport (LIH) was en route for Denver over the Pacific Ocean when flight crew reported a hydraulic failure.

With the aircraft approximately 500 nautical miles to the north east on flight plan track, flight crew made the decision to make a precautionary diversion to Honolulu.
The aircraft landed without further incident at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) approximately 2.5 hours after its initial departure from Lihue. According to the online source Aviation Herald, passengers were advised of a hydraulic system failure whilst the aircraft was outbound in cruising flight.
Honolulu was selected as the nearest airport to make a safe landing without the benefit of nosewheel steering. The aircraft was subsequently repositioned to Denver following a ground stop at Honolulu of approximately 43 hours.

Flight data shows that United Airlines flight UA1685 made a delayed departure out of Lihue. Actual time of departure is logged as 2134 local time on 20 August. Scheduled departure time for the service was 1925 local time.
The flight and then set course normally for Denver International Airport (DEN). Flight crew climbed the aircraft to flight level FL350 (35,000 feet) for the transpacific route.
The precautionary diversion was then made whilst outbound in the cruise. Aircraft conducting the UA1685 service to Colorado was a Boeing 757-200, registered N12114. This is a 29.2 year old aircraft belonging to the carrier United Airlines.
It has been an operational service with the airline since October 2010. Prior to the 2010 merger it was in operation with Continental Airlines. Continental operated the aircraft since its initial delivery from the factory in July 1995.
