Vietnam Airlines has made history by becoming the first Vietnamese carrier to offer nonstop flights between Vietnam and Munich, the capital of Bavaria.

This new European service marks the latest in the airline’s international expansion strategy. It promises to boost trade, tourism, and economic ties between Vietnam and Germany.

VN35 Launch: Hanoi to Munich

On October 5, the inaugural flight VN35 took to the skies from Hanoi, bound for Munich. The occasion was celebrated with fanfare at both ends of the journey.

In Munich, a special ceremony welcomed the flight, attended by dignitaries including Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprise. Also in attendance was Mr. Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport.

Passengers and crew received a warm Bavarian welcome, complete with traditional attire and gifts. The aircraft was honored with a traditional water cannon salute before its return journey. It further bolsters Vietnam-Germany aviation relations.

Strengthening International Bonds

Le Duc Canh, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, gave comment on the route inauguration. He emphasized the significance of this new route as part of the carrier’s network strategy. He stated, “Our direct service to Munich is a crucial step in our global expansion plans.”

“Over the past two decades, we’ve operated nearly 14,000 flights between Vietnam and Germany, carrying over 3.1 million passengers. These new direct flights will further cement our countries’ economic and cultural ties.”

Flight Schedule and Expansion Plans

The Hanoi-Munich route will now operate twice weekly. Departures from Hanoi will operate on Fridays and Sundays, and return flights from Munich on Mondays and Saturdays.

Additionally, from October 7, a weekly service between Ho Chi Minh City and Munich will commence, operating on Mondays with Tuesday returns.

Looking ahead, Vietnam Airlines plans to increase frequencies from December 2024, adding Wednesday departures from Ho Chi Minh City and Thursday returns from Munich. All flights will utilize modern wide-body aircraft, ensuring passenger comfort on these long-haul journeys.
