Wizz Air has announced the launch of two new routes from Sweden’s Malmö Airport to Romania.

Set to commence operations on 29 October 2024, these routes will connect the Swedish city to Bucharest and Iasi, operating twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Strengthening Southeastern European Connections


This expansion marks a notable enhancement in Malmö’s air links to southeastern Europe, reflecting the rising demand for international travel in the region.

Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia, the company that operates Malmö Airport, emphasizes the significance of this development.

“Wizz Air’s investment in additional direct routes from Malmö Airport is a clear indicator of the continued strong demand for international travel. Their long-standing presence at our airport plays a crucial role in connecting Sweden to well-established markets in southeastern Europe.”

Axtelius further explains that Swedavia’s primary goal is to increase connectivity and facilitate meetings, whether for business, leisure, or visiting family and friends. “Wizz Air is an essential part of this strategy,” she adds.

The new routes will be operated as follows:

Malmö Airport (MMX) to Bucharest (OTP):

– Frequency: Twice weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays)

– Aircraft: Airbus A321CEO (230 seats)

Malmö Airport (MMX) to Iasi (IAS):

– Frequency: Twice weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays)

– Aircraft: Airbus A320CEO (180 seats)
