Wizz Air Flight W43031 Bucharest-London Declares Emergency

Wizz Air Malta flight W43031, an A321-200 enroute from Bucharest to London, has declared an emergency and diverted to Cologne.

A Wizz Air flight enroute from Bucharest to London Gatwick has declared an emergency whilst in transit through German airspace.

Wizz Air Malta flight W43031 squawked transponder code 7700 whilst enroute through Germany, and has diverted to Cologne.

Flight W43031 declared the emergency from the cruise at FL340, before conducting an expedited descent and diversion into nearby Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN). The nature of the problem which prompted the immediate diversion is not yet known.

Flight data shows that Wizz Air Malta flight W43031 made a departure out of Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) at 1213 local time today. The flight had then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL340 (34,000 feet) for the north-westerly service to London.

The flight was approaching Frankfurt on flight plan track for London when flight crew declared the emergency and negotiated the diversion to Cologne.

The aircraft conducting the W43031 service from Bucharest was an Airbus A321neo, registered 9H-WNQ. This is a 0.1 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Wizz Air Malta. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2024.
